New Morning Mantra

“How can I love others like Jesus and share the gospel today?”

This question has become my morning mantra. When I think of serving God, too often my mind jumps years ahead to things I might do when I have more time, more money, or more connections. But we’re not promised tomorrow, let alone years from now. God is far more concerned about how we’re obeying Him today, right here, in this moment.

Don’t separate the secular from the spiritual or the mundane from the miraculous. If you are a believer, the same Spirit of God that raised Jesus from the dead is living inside of you. Surrender to Him! Ask Him to show you how to be the hands, feet, and words of Jesus to the people you come in contact with today.

My favorite Bible verse is Matthew 6:33: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” I love this charge to seek first God’s Kingdom, which includes God’s reign in our life, as well as the lives of others.

Think about the daily life of Jesus. Some days He taught in front of large crowds, other days He spent time with His closest friends. Sometimes He ate with sinners and outcasts, sometimes He retreated by Himself to pray to God. No matter where He was, who He was with, or how ordinary His task, Jesus was focused on loving others and proclaiming God’s truth. We can do likewise.

Whether you write an encouraging note to your coworker, memorize Scripture in the carpool line, call your elderly grandmother, or share the gospel on the subway, say yes to opportunities to further God’s Kingdom. He has a plan and purpose for your right where you are, and you can glorify Him today.
